Interview Boerenbusiness Stage

'Viewing the grower's company and pride'

3 May 2023

Robert Reijerse (22) completes his study Agricultural Entrepreneurship Horticulture & Arable Farming at the Aeres Hogeschool Dronten with an internship at Boerenbusiness. He is involved in coordinating the daily activities Dutch Crop tour onions and potatoes. Robert is very pleased with his experiences during the internship. "I get the most energy from the contact with the growers. Each of us can look at his company with pride and get an explanation about the approach within the company. That's great!"

How are you Boerenbusiness ended up?
"I had a subscription through school at Boerenbusiness, that's why I already looked a lot on the website and read the articles in the app on my phone. Here I came across the article of the internship and then I took action. I am very satisfied; the variety, being outside and the contact with the growers makes it so beautiful!"

Do you have an agricultural background yourself?
"At home in Spijk (North Groningen) we have an arable farm of 100 hectares with seed onions, seed potatoes, sugar beets and wheat. The intention is that after my studies I will be active in the company a few days a week or completely at home . That's a very good prospect. I also take the experience from home to the growers of the Gewastour, it's a lot easier to talk with this basic knowledge. It's interesting to see how others approach it. Of course you know how to do it yourself does, but there are several good ways."

What are your daily activities?
"In the beginning I visited many growers of the Gewastour, so that I no longer had to be there when they would be busy. Then I spent a lot of time working out the interviews and drawing up weekly updates."

What are your experiences of the internship?
"It is a young and pleasant team, the guidance is top notch and the atmosphere on the work floor is friendly. It is easy to plan flexibly, which I think is an advantage. If you deliver the work that is expected on time, you have quite a lot own time. In addition, it is very varied and you have a lot of contact with the growers, that's the best part. My biggest hobby is going out, having a chat with the growers over a cup of coffee and looking at their pride. The variety is nice I like flexible work and I can find that at the Gewastour."

What will you take with you from your internship into the future?
"I think mainly the contact and the network with the participating growers. Of course I also take certain ideas from the growers home with me. I have also visited all growers. These are companies from 30 hectares to 100 hectares. That is of course a very big difference in terms of arable farmers, work and area. That is very interesting to see. Everyone does it differently and there is no mistake. Only the art is of course to do it as well as possible."

They are there regularly Boerenbusiness new internships available. There are also plenty of opportunities to carry out assignments and research as an individual student or as a group. Keep the possibilities here closely monitor.
