It is finally time to make progress in the country, now that the changeable spring allows it. Anyone who looks at the calendar will see that this is necessary. There is a lot of pressure, especially when sowing onions. But it shouldn't take long for the potatoes either. These troubles have also reached the organic market. A lot of rain is forecast this weekend. Anyone who has not yet sown onions may not do so again and that will still take a bite out of the acreage. What has been sown is lagging behind in terms of growth.

Onion market
Sales in the organic onion market continue smoothly, there is no peak traffic. Currently, demand and supply are reasonable, but with the comment that there is still sufficient supply. The current temperature does not make storing onions any more difficult, although the month of May has now arrived. There is also of course supply from Egypt, the quality of which is also excellent according to an insider. It is difficult to arrive at a good indicative price for the onions due to the many long-term agreements that have been made. It is clear that prices close to the euro are a thing of the past.

Based on very few transactions and a large spread, the DCA Indication Price for onions is taking a step downwards this week. The DCA Indicative Price is €76 per 100 kilos, for both coarse and fine grading. This means that the current spring is not immediately reflected in the indicative price this week, although this may change in the coming weeks.

Potato market
The organic potato market is no different in terms of the vicissitudes this spring. There is pressure behind it and that influences the current market for table potatoes. The conventional market is almost the same in price as the organic one and therefore pushes the organic market up slightly. Because if we look purely at the organic potato market, it is a bit gloomy. The picture has been the same all season and it does not appear that this will change due to the high supply. Nevertheless, the lower end of the DCA Indication Price is rising slightly this week. The DCA Indicative Price for organic potatoes is €34 to €40 per 100 kilos.
