Carrot market under the spell of very tight supply

5 May 2023 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

The carrot is almost finished. That is the very short summary of what is going on in the carrot market. Rinsers with their own stock puzzle how they can sing out this season and there is very little trade. Almost everything is forgiven on the farmer. It is mainly flushers who exchange something with each other.

Carrot exports are not very wild, but the mood is generally not bad among those who still run on their own stock. You don't want it from the masses, but if you can deliver a little quality, the Eastern Europeans are willing to pay a little extra for it. Buying more carrots now will be difficult. Growers have sold almost everything and the few who still have free carrots are asking the top price. There is also no need to purchase much. Various rinsers run at a low level or completely stop for this season.

Few more transactions
Because there is little trade, it is difficult to get a price together. You can no longer get good carrots for less than €400 per box. Above that, it's basically whatever the fool will give, up to and including €500 per box at the top end of the market. The bandwidth of the DCA listing is therefore wide. For b-carrot the range is from €60 to €74 per 100 kilos. The c-carrot is €64 to €74 per 100 kilos.

Given the extremely small stock of free carrots and the limited number of transactions, this is the last DCA carrot quotation of this season.
