The organic market is once again labeled as quiet. Sales of table potatoes continue to be sluggish. The onion price is taking a step in the wrong direction.
Sales on the organic onion market have been the same for a long time. Something happens, but there is not much volume. Despite drought, demand from abroad continues to lag behind this year and this has to do with the fact that organic onion cultivation has grown in other countries. This season has seen quite a lot of sales in the conventional market due to the high prices and that seems to be doing well for the organic market at the moment. If this were not the case, the relationship between supply and demand would have looked very different.
The storage season is currently coming to an end and there is a supply of new organic onions from Egypt, among others. Sales remain somewhat below par because there is little demand from abroad. It is difficult to provide a good reflection of the market due to the very few transactions. But on that basis, the DCA Indication Price takes a step downwards. The DCA Indication Price for organic onions this week amounts to €70 per 100 kilos for both coarse and fine size grading.
Organic potatoes unchanged
On the organic potato market, the picture has actually been the same all season long. There is some interest in exports, but this does not lead to actual volumes crossing the border. That interest was already there a few weeks ago and then it remained just interest. The supply remains reasonably high and lots disappear into the usual channel, the prices of which are close to each other. For some varieties, the price for conventional and organic is the same. It is obvious that the area of organic table potatoes will decrease by a few percent. DCA Indicative price of organic potatoes remains the same as last week and the spread is wide. This brings the quotation to €33 to €40 per 100 kilos.
