Things don't want to go really smoothly in the carrot trade yet. The market is very volatile with a wide price range. That makes buyers of flushed product cautious. And that restraint seeps further down the chain.
The season started with high prices, but the downward trend has been rigorous, especially in the c-pea. If you are a buyer in a declining market, it is often worthwhile not to commit until you really need the carrot. And that is exactly where we are now. Most rinsers, except for a few, do not seem to get hot or cold from this. I would rather just do the regular work or take another week's holiday than join the battle for the customer.

Growers are in a bit of a bind due to the somewhat laconic attitude of the processors. If you want or have to dig up because the carrot is growing too far, as a grower you are condemned to either flushers who have limited access to the market and are critical of the price or to industry that does not exactly have the main prize in mind.
Providing a good reflection of the market in the quotation remains quite a challenge. Price range is wide, just like the volumes that are done. The DCA Quotation b-carrot this week amounts to €34 to €36 per 100 kilos. It is the top of the quote that takes a step back. The DCA Quotation for c-peen is €14 to €20 per 100 kilos. Most of the input is at the lower end of the quotation, but with little concrete trading. Many prices that circulate among growers and traders are asking prices, which give a slightly different picture of the market.
