Cyber criminals steal a large amount of money from HZPC

18 September 2023 - Jesse Torringa - 10 comments

Seed potato trading house Royal HZPC was seriously affected by a form of cybercrime last Thursday, September 14. A large amount of money has been transferred to a criminal bank account, which is also reflected in the annual accounts for the 2022/23 season.

Royal HZPC announced this on Monday afternoon (September 18). Gerard Backx, director of Royal HZPC, briefly explains that he cannot make any statements about the size of the amount of money. However, it does involve a 'large amount of money'. We are working with banks and the police to limit the damage, but the outcome is still far from certain.

Consequences for annual accounts
In any case, the theft has an impact on the annual accounts for the 2022/23 season, which the trading company is now in the process of completing. Normally this is presented during the general membership meeting on October 5, but this theft may also have consequences for the publication date.

Backx indicates that it cannot provide any further information during the investigation. The news has been released because the trading house is a semi-listed and public organization. According to the AFM, it is mandatory to announce the above so that all certificate holders are informed.

I think the certificate holders pay for it, not the pool.
How many times has something gone wrong with their automation at Backx, and how much has it all cost. It is then one thing and then another that goes wrong.

many, including you, always know how to talk about it in such a way that it has no consequences for the grower.

I get an oppressive feeling about this company; one moment the money is not being brought in from Sudan because this country is at war and no currency is allowed to leave the country and a moment later it is the syber criminals who continue with the money and then they come back with an impression of the celebration of Stet's 50th anniversary, where no growers were present [they will probably be ashamed of the work floor] so I get the feeling that they are alienating themselves from that work floor. No matter how it turns out, the money will have to come from the potatoes, so unfortunately from the grower. In my opinion, those big minds in that office have reason enough to be very concerned and not to worry about achieving the greatest possible status. PRIDE COMES BEFORE THE FALL!!!!!
