Wet weather and hardly a few dry days in a row. It seems as if we are repeating summer again, with the difference that we are almost in November. Due to the lack of workable days, players in the carrot sector are being put on the spot.
Common carrots for storage have hardly been harvested. From the moment you could dig, it has become wet. The opportunity simply never came along to do something. Several rinsers are running out of stock and would like to buy something for immediate delivery. It is also possible to dig on high, light and well-drained soil, but the structure does not improve, to put it mildly. To convince a grower, a little extra is paid.
Stuck in your own right
It is quiet in carrots intended for storage. Prices remain largely unchanged and both growers and rinsers are not very enthusiastic about doing much. Growers feel that if it remains this wet, carrots will almost certainly be left behind, while washers point out that export is and remains very difficult.
The DCA Quotation b-carrot this week amounts to €14 to €16 per 100 kilos. The top of the quotation is for carrots that can be harvested and delivered immediately. In many cases, buyers do not want to spend more than €15 for storage carrots. C-carrot has moved a long way towards the b-carrot, which stands at €14 to €15 per 100 kilos.
