Harvested some carrots again between the showers

A small break of a few days between showers allowed the harvester to get out of the shed again. This does not, however, cause traffic congestion. Growers are willing to charge money for the carrot, but not all buyers are willing to accept this.

The harvesting certainly does not happen automatically, but the weather reports do not bode well, so they push on anyway. This is not conducive to quality. According to various sources, carrots are now being put in refrigeration, which will have to be removed again in the short term because they appear to be unstorable. Harvested too wet, spots and/or water damage.

For flushers and cold stores it is quite a challenge to arrange everything transport-wise. It takes a lot of stealing between showers to be able to harvest something and a grower doesn't want to have to stop because there are no boxes or cars. If a buyer is flexible with transport, a grower is often willing to make a concession on the price.

Market difficult to grasp
Providing a good reflection of the market in the quotation is difficult this week due to the wide variety in product quality. Despite the fact that a lot has been cleared, there is not much trade. The DCA quotation for both b- and c-peen class I has taken a step up this week to €16 to €20. Most of the trading is at €18. €20 is made, but that is usually for destinations where transport is a problem.
