Things are currently a little more difficult on the organic carrot market than in recent months. The difference in quality, which varies considerably, remains the most important topic. In the long term there will be plenty of opportunities for good carrots. The organic table potato and yellow onion market remains stable.
The demand for organic table potatoes remains strong and is expected to remain so in the coming weeks. The table potatoes find their way both at home and abroad and a lot of trade has already been done. Even though many consignments have already been delivered and traded, supply continues to come from growers. Usually there are reasonable quality lots in storage, but the combination of the current market level and the shelf life ensures that there are growers who want to say goodbye. Prices remain the same as last week and the moderate and very coarse lots amount to around €52 to €60 per 100 kilos, while very good lots with certain varieties amount to €70 to €72 per 100 kilos.
While things are not going so smoothly on the conventional onion market, sales seem to be going somewhat better on the organic yellow onion market. An insider indicates that sales are quite busy and that a lot of work has been done in recent weeks. In the meantime, growers who still have free yellow onions are reluctant to let them go. The DCA Indication Price for organic yellow onions increases slightly and amounts to €68 to €86 per 100 kilos. The fine size sorting is at the bottom and the coarse size sorting is at the top of this bandwidth. The caveat to this price is that there are few transactions.
Different winds on the organic carrot market
There is a different wind blowing at the organic carrot market than we have been used to in recent months. Quality issues and somewhat lower demand are the reason for this. According to an insider, there is no question of much less sales, but just a little less. The supply of lower quality carrots, which increases in storage, also ensures that the working supplies are full. In addition, there are of course the fixed agreements that have been made for a longer period of time.
The DCA Indication Price therefore remains the same as last week and amounts to €40 to €60 per 100 kilos, delivered from the grower. Good batches are paid around €60, for inferior batches you can easily reach mid-€40 per 100 kilos. Over time, the cards will be shuffled differently for good games in storage. There are plenty of opportunities to repeat last season's trick.
