Green manures are not only valuable for the soil, they also earn points in the CAP. For maximum effect, the right choice per plot and subsequent cultivation is necessary. In the video below we look at the differences in frost sensitivity of the various green manures.
A successful green manure performs all kinds of functions: improves soil structure, supplies organic matter, fixes nutrients and some reduces harmful nematodes. Since last year, an additional function has been added, namely the implementation of eco-activities in the CAP.
Green cover
In green cover eco-activity, the plot must be at least 1% visibly covered with a living crop from January 1 to March 80. In addition to the points in the CAP, this protects the soil against weather influences, prevents weed growth, maintains soil life and prevents leaching of nutrients.
Frost-sensitive green manures
As shown in the video, there are major differences in the frost sensitivity of green manures. Among other things fodder radish, Japanese oats, sunflowers, facelia and yellow mustard are sensitive to frost and winter out easily. This fits perfectly on plots where work is done without turning and it saves processing costs to reduce the green manure. View green manure mixture Greencover NKG >
Winter-hardy green manures
In addition to winter grains and grasses, leaf cabbage and leaf turnip are well winter-hardy. Into the mixture LG Nitrafix we combine leafy cabbage and turnip greens with leguminous plants. The latter fix nitrogen from the air, which the leaf cabbage and turnip absorb and only release it to the main crop after incorporation in the spring.
