Wireworms are increasingly causing damage in Dutch construction plans. These larvae of the click beetle eat plant roots and tubers underground. In this way, they cause plant loss, loss of yield and reduction in quality of, among other things, consumption potatoes. Smart choices in crop planning are necessary to protect sensitive crops.
Wireworm populations are increasing sharply due to the disappearance of chemical pesticides, changing weather, the use of catch crops and NKG. It is therefore important to disrupt the population structure by growing a non-host plant. The dormant crop of winter oilseed rape is particularly suitable for this.
