Fresh produce and supermarkets have to make do for the Dutch carrot sector. It is quiet in the (overseas) export. Nothing unusual for this time of year, says one washer, while the next is a bit worried and has rarely experienced this. What washermen are fairly unanimous about is that it is not particularly busy. Of course, that is almost inevitable if the export is not yet pulling at full speed.

Destination is decisive
Price records are not broken in the first DCA carrot quotation of this season, but the start is certainly not bad. The DCA quotation for both b and c carrots starts at €17 to €20 per 100 kilos. Partly because the retail is an important buyer, there is less need to fight about the price. Rinsers who buy carrots for these customers simply want a good product. As long as the carrot is good, a cent more or less does not make a difference. Early varieties are unfortunately somewhat sensitive to quality problems if they continue to grow for too long. This can also be noticed in the trade. Growers who are more or less up with the carrot are also happy to pay €15 or not.
