There is hardly any compelling supply of early carrots. In that respect we have a nice clean market. Due to a somewhat moderate demand for carrots for export, the mood is not as you would expect.
The yields are not bad on average in the early carrots, but they are certainly not a real topper either. The market has therefore remained quite well on its feet. "If the sales in August had been comparable to the last seasons, we would have run out of carrots by now", reports a washer. With a few weeks left with the earlier varieties, there are still enough carrots to be had. That does give you something to think about.
Opinions differ on the yields we can expect from storage carrots. Apart from a few 30 degree plus days, we have had old-fashioned Dutch summer weather. Ideal growing conditions. However, the extremely wet winter followed by a wet spring have left their mark. One expects a top yield due to the growing weather, while the other finds a more average harvest realistic due to structural problems.
The DCA carrot listing is under some pressure this week. B carrots drop by €1 to €15 to €17 per 100 kilos. C carrots drop by €0,50 and end up at €15 to €18.
