Supply of farm-grown carrots is starting to dry up

With the current dry weather, carrots are being harvested in abundance. The supply from the field is starting to dry up. The general expectation is that it won't be long before we will have to switch to storage carrots.

Carrots from the cooling system are already being offered, but as long as there are still carrots from the farm available, the prices are considered too high. The quality is generally good, with a few 'normal' problems.

A week, ten days, that is approximately the time span that is taken into account for the end of the field carrots. When there is a switch to storage carrots, it is obvious that the prices will also move up. The exciting question is whether seller and buyer can find each other immediately and whether there is then trade. Because the farmer can ask one thing, the carrot also has to be sold, a trader notes.

Export prices are quite low, but there is reasonable demand from Eastern Europe (read: Poland) in the run-up to Christmas. Possibly this will drop after the holidays.  

The price that is being placed on B and C carrots remains at €10 to €12 per 100 kilos for the third week in a row.
