Your crop well protected this growing season

3 March 2025

We are at the beginning of a new season of crop protection. The last arable evenings have been where we shared the latest insights on crop protection for a well-fed and protected crop.

Products do not pass a European re-registration, the Ctgb will include the finding of products in surface water in their assessments for approval in the Netherlands and consumer support for the use of crop protection products is decreasing. The result is that we have fewer crop protection products at our disposal. The number of active substances is decreasing, making it more difficult to tackle weeds, insects and fungi. Resistance development is increasing due to a decrease in the number of active substances.

Importance of proper use of crop protection products
Because crop protection is under pressure, the importance of using the right product at the right time with the right technique is increasing. As Van Iperen, we therefore conduct research into the best crop protection strategies every year. For example, we had our phytophthora schedules tested and set up a large downy mildew trial, in which we looked at the use of 'green' crop protection products, auxiliary materials and the use of decision support systems and in sugar beets at the effect of different schedules, influence of varieties and the addition of foliar fertilizers. We also monitor certain pest insects such as onions and bean fly so that targeted control can take place and we encourage the use of spot spraying techniques to achieve a better result with fewer resources. We conduct this research to give you the right advice this season. Research of which we do not yet share the results with you.

Go into the season prepared
Van Iperen's advisors are happy to help you determine which strategy best suits your crop. This allows you to act quickly when necessary. Contact them.

What we also do is thrips control in onions. At the moment there are still good thrips products available, but we are still looking ahead to the future in which we look at possibilities without these products. In this research we look at the use of natural enemies, banker plants and 'green' crop protection products. These crop protection strategies are not yet ready for the future, but we are investigating the possibilities of these strategies.

Linking My Growth and Cropvision
Fungicides can only be used at the right time if you have an idea of the optimal living conditions of a fungus (infection pressure) and the disease pressure in the environment or in the field (spore pressure) in combination with the growth stages of the crop. My Growth to link with Cropvision, these two are brought together. This can help you to use spraying more effectively, which reduces the chance of an infestation or reduces the use of crop protection products.

Advice based on research, current mold pressure and the right choice of products: that is what we stand for to guide your crop well-nourished and protected through this season.
