HZPC Holland announced last night (March 3) that the forecast price for seed potatoes from the 2024 harvest has been set at...
The final payment price is expected at the end of June. Despite heavy rainfall, such as in Zeeland, North Holland and the head of Groningen, the harvest was good on average with a lot of demand for HZPC varieties.
'Historically high price'
Martin Jansen Klomp, regional manager Benelux, speaks of a historically high payout price: "The forecast price of €61,50 shows that another step upwards has been taken. This is important, especially considering the risks that growers run due to a wet spring and the high disease pressure during the growing season." He further emphasizes that a higher payout price is necessary to compensate for these risks.
CEO Hans Huistra adds that the higher price makes growing seed potatoes more attractive, not only in the Netherlands but also internationally. "In many countries, Dutch seed potatoes are used for growing potatoes. A better price not only supports our growers, but also strengthens our position worldwide," says Huistra.
Space for area
HZPC expects, partly due to the strong demand for their varieties and the satisfactory price level, a positive result for all parties involved. The company sees room for expansion of the area and is in talks with growers about this. "Our varieties are doing well in the market and thanks to the high yields we can realize further growth", according to Jansen Klomp.
