The carrot supply is large and the demand cannot keep up. It is still too early for the Easter demand, since Easter falls on April 20 and 21 and is therefore relatively late. The price will come under more pressure this week and is now actually taking a step down.
The quality varies. There are reports of spots and that manifests itself in complaints from customers. For good carrots, a bit more money is spent, while inferior carrots, if they find a buyer at all, are sold for little, according to insiders.
Easter question in the offing
Exports are still not wild, although carrots continue to go to Eastern Europe. Floods in Spain have so far had no noticeable effect on export demand. Easter is in a month, normally demand picks up in the weeks before, but it is still too early for that.
After a stable listing last week, the price pressure is still reflected in the price this week. It takes a step down from €15,00 to €18,00 per 100 kilos for B-carrots to €15,00 to €17,00. It should be noted that this applies to good quality carrots. More is paid for coarse, but there too a small step down is taken, with the remark that there is relatively little trade in it.
