Potato giant Lutosa is investing €200 million in the expansion and sustainability of its Waregem site, the company reports. The investment will increase capacity and make the factory more sustainable.
The works have already started and include the installation of a new frying line, a larger flake line and the construction of a new potato receiving and sorting station. In addition, the wastewater treatment plant is being improved, allowing 85% of the water to be reused. The investment should also lead to a reduction in energy demand of more than 25%.
"Lutosa has a long and fruitful history in Waregem," says managing director Alain Dufait in a press release. "I am delighted that we are continuing this history by expanding and making our production facility more sustainable. This offers new opportunities to better serve our customers and support our growth strategy."
Lutosa is a major player in the production of frozen potato products and has more than 1.000 employees in Belgium. The activities are spread over the sites in Leuze-en-Hainaut and Sint-Eloois-Vijve, near Waregem.
