Cosun guarantees its member growers a higher price for sugar beets starting in the 2026 harvest. The cooperative has decided to increase the minimum price by €2,50 to €37,50 per net ton of beets at a sugar content of 17% and a WIN of 91. With this measure, Cosun aims to keep sugar beet cultivation attractive in the long term.
The cooperative announced this today (Monday, August 18) in a letter to its member growers. The allocation rate has been set at 100%, the same percentage as in the current growing year. The minimum beet price is the price Cosun guarantees to pay its members. This is usually supplemented by a member surcharge, which the group finances from the results of its other group companies, such as potato processor Aviko.
Markets under pressure
Expectations are high for the beet price in the upcoming 2025 campaign, which starts on Monday, September 8. sugar prices have been under pressure for some time, while the markets for French fries and fresh fries are in crisis. At the same time, costs are rising, Cosun emphasizes. Therefore, in the letter, the group also announces cost-saving measures and price adjustments (i.e., higher sales prices) for its products. "The initial results of our improvement programs are positive," Cosun states.
According to Cosun, the decision to increase the minimum price can be seen as a signal to member growers to maintain confidence in beet cultivation. ""We continue to build a healthy and future-proof revenue model for our members," the board and management explain in the letter.
