Due to the changeable weather, the sowing of sugar beets is not proceeding as smoothly as last year. In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, growers are traditionally the furthest along. There, 44% has been sown. By the end of March 2025, sowing in Zeeland was completed except for a few plots.

In 2025, sowing resulted in a head start of nearly a month compared to the two preceding years. With a national average sowing date of March 26, this represented a very early start. Normally, beet seeds go into the ground in early April.

In the northeast, the Noordoostpolder, and Limburg, it is still relatively quiet regarding beet planters. On the sandy and valley soils in the north, less than 4% of the beets have been sown. In the Noordoostpolder, 5% has been sown, and in Limburg, 6%.

In Flevoland, sowing is just slightly ahead of the national average. On the northern clay and in North and South Holland, one in five plots has been sown.
