The dry weather during an important period of the New Zealand growing season is expected to lead to finer grading, a situation that also occurred in 2011. In addition to the expectation of a better harvest, the quality is said to be good.
The past growing season was a good season for New Zealand growers. The demand for onions was good, which had a positive effect on price formation. Due to, among other things, good quality, the export volume was able to grow by 7 percent compared to the export year 2015, to approximately 175.000 tons. The good results have led to an increase in area of more than 6 percent and, according to the latest estimates, amounts to 5.225 hectares.
