One customer that stands out is the Netherlands, where 1.785 tons of onions are on their way. It is important that the majority does not ultimately remain in the Netherlands, but is transported to the hinterland. Germany is the most obvious choice.
The same also applies to Belgium, which with Antwerp fulfills the same function as Rotterdam. What goes directly to Germany is less compared to last year: -521 tons => -70%.
Fewer onions are also on their way to French ports: -411 tons => -50%. The largest buyers of New Zealand onions up to and including week 6 are the Pacific Islands with a total volume of 2.392 tons (year-old 1.949 tons).
The New Zealand onions to be imported fulfill agreements made long in advance regarding the supply of the new harvest of onions to European consumers.
