Fewer yellow seed onions in stock, but a higher percentage of free and a smaller stock of red onions. That is the outcome of the second inventory inventory that VTA conducted among its members in the first week of February.
In the first inventory round, the participants already indicated that the yield was 2,9 percent lower compared to the previous season. This was about 5 percent lower than the five-year average. The participants have now delivered about 49 percent of the onions. This is about the same level as last season. By then, 48 percent of the onions had been delivered.
In absolute tons, there is 5,0 percent less stock among VTA members than last season. This is about 8 percent less than the five-year average.
About 25 percent of the stock has been sold (75 percent is still available). Last season, 71,5 percent of the stock was still available. On an absolute tonnage basis, free stock is 1 percent lower than last year. This is 12 percent lower than the five-year average.
Proportionally, the stock available for red onions is slightly lower than for yellow seed onions. For the participants with red onions, 42 percent of the stock had already been sold, while 23 percent of the stock of the yellow seed onions has been sold.
A stock inventory will follow in April.
