More than 35.000 tons of onions are now on their way from New Zealand to destinations on mainland Europe.
The largest destination is the Dutch ports. This concerns approximately 14.000 tons. With over 7.000 tons, Belgium is the second largest destination in Europe for New Zealand onions.
In week 12, 7.350 tons of onions were exported to mainland Europe. In the same week of last year, that was 6.500 tons. The weekly average of previous years is 7.433 tons of onions.
Outside of Europe, Indonesia is the largest customer with over 9.600 tons. The country is followed by Japan, with more than 5.800 tons. In third place is the Pacific Islands with more than 4.700 tons.
The total export figure, up to and including week 12, amounts to 60.242 tons this season. Last year that was 75.403 tons. The multi-year average is 60.183 tons.
