What is striking about the European onion markets are the movements in onion prices compared to Dutch onions. It seems as if the backlog in the sale of onions cannot get a grip on prices.
Despite the fact that every European country is struggling to maintain its sales level, onion prices in Germany, Poland, Austria, France and Spain remain virtually unchanged. These markets have a much quieter appearance. This despite the slump in sales.
Germany
The price range for German onions is between 10,00 and 12,00 euros per 100 kg for yellow onions, medium sorting, sorted and delivered in Big Bags from the sorting company.
Poland and Austria
The Polish onions are traded between 8,00 and 10,00 euros per 100 kg, medium sized and delivered in 15 kilo bales. The Austrian onions for 9,00 to 13,00 euros per 100 kg, sorted and delivered loose in boxes (from the grower's company).
France and Spain
The French onions in 10 kilo bales of size 60-80 mm, with the final destination in French retail, are traded between 18,00 and 20,00 euros per 100 kg. In Spain, onions, which are stored in mechanical cooling with size grading 2/3 and delivered in 25 kilo bales, are traded for approximately 26,00 euros per 100 kg.
