The New Zealand onion season is in full swing. After exports started hesitantly at the beginning of 2017, the export volume has now risen above the multi-year average up to and including week 15.
New Zealand has exported 14 tons of onions up to and including week 85.543. That is 11.349 tons less than last year, but 9.367 tons more than the year before. The multi-year average for the period 2012 to 2016 is 82.081 tonnes.
To Europe
The majority of New Zealand's onion exports have been shipped to Europe this year. This concerns 49.834 tons of onions. Of these, 18.084 tons of onions were sent to Dutch ports. However, that does not mean that the Netherlands is actually the final destination.
Outside of Europe
Outside Europe, Japan is a notable customer with 10.015 tons. That was 4.479 tons in the same period last year.
With a volume of 14.447 tons, Indonesia is the second buyer of New Zealand onions. Moreover, Indonesia has never purchased so many onions until week 14.
