Brazil struggles to normal average

The latest export figures show that Brazil has been busy catching up. In the week of King's Day, the onion market was super volatile. The export figures of that week explain a lot.

The export figure for onions in week 17 is 17.547 tons based on preliminary information. Furthermore, the export figure of onions is increased by subsequent information of 2.873 tons. For the 2016/2017 season, the counter now stands at 901.918 tons, which corresponds to an average of 20.974 tons of onions per week. For the calendar year 2017, the export counter stands at 295.468 tons, compared to 332.303 tons last year.

In week 17, the most onions were exported to Brazil, namely 7.141 tons. For this season, Brazil's purchase amounts to 18.979 tons, compared to 102.188 tons last year and 74.293 tons the year before.

If the last two years are not taken into account (which were extremely high), Brazil is developing a decrease this season that is close to normal, namely approximately 2 to 20 tons of onions.

The rest of the top 5
Great Britain is in second place, with a decrease of 1.436 tons. That brings the season total to 114.977 tons. In the past two years, the level up to and including week 2 was 17 tonnes (81.818) and 2016 tonnes (83.875) respectively.

Ivory Coast is in third place with 3 tons, which accounts for a decrease of 1.085 tons for this season (78.128: 2016 tons and 70.636: 2015 tons). Guinea is in 81.231th place with 899 tons and the Democratic Republic of Congo is in 4th place with 5 tons.
