The seasonal export figure of onions feels like a plaster on the wound. In the period from February to June 2017, the export rate declined sharply compared to the period from July 2016 to January 2017.
The export figure for week 23 has a provisional figure of 12.632 tons. Now that the volume of onions exported in the last weeks of the season is declining, the volume of subsequent information, 178 tons, is also lower.
Almost 21.000 tons per week
The seasonal export figure has now passed the 1 million tonne mark and now stands at a provisional total of 1.011.353 tonnes (year-to-date 1.004.309 tonnes).
That amounts to 20.639 tons of onions per week. The export figure from weeks 1 to 23 amounts to 404.904 tons, compared to 408.384 tons in the same period last year.
In week 23, Great Britain was the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 2.335 tons. Guinea took second place with 1.589 tonnes, closely followed by Mauritania with 1.435 tonnes and Gambia with 1.072 tonnes.
