In Germany, the harvest of winter onions is almost over. Also in Germany (the Netherlands suffers from the same problem), onions from two harvest seasons are mixed up, but New Zealand onions are also hindering the sales of home-grown winter onions.

The first harvest of onion sets puts more pressure on the price

Enough supply
Priority is now being given to first marketing the recently imported onions in storage, before processing and marketing the winter onions. There is currently no shortage of onions in Germany.

First harvest
The first onion sets can now also be harvested, which will put more pressure on prices given the available stock. The price range for winter onions varies between €34 and €35 per 100 kilos and for New Zealand between €60 and €65 per 100 kilos.
