With the end of the old onion season at €0, the first quotation of Beurs Goes for onion sets appears to be not too bad. Still, the prize is not too promising, says chairman Watze van der Zee of the fair.
On Tuesday, the stock exchange quoted a price of €14 to €16 per 100 kilos for onion onions from the field. "Business has been done in that price range; at least 9 transactions last week. Enough to record. Prices per hectare of €8.000 and €8.250 are mentioned, but Goes is not recording any hectare prices at the moment."
Poor returns
Van der Zee thinks the quotation is on the low side. "€14 to €16 is not too high. And not hopeful either. In the southwest we have seen yields of 30 and 45 tons. With this quotation that only yields a meager return. Also the things that are for the longer term done, do not appear to be much higher."
Not much margin
According to the chairman, to cover the costs, a grower must earn at least €5.500 per hectare. "With a price like this, there is not much margin. Then you have to rely on the kilos, but due to the dry weather that is not possible. On top of that, there are the costs for irrigation, which amount to about 500 hectare per hectare." €XNUMX will come out if you have it done."
If there are sufficient transactions, the Goes stock exchange will list again next week.
