European countries experience some hindrance in the sale of onions during the summer holidays. Especially now that the supply of onions is increasing, consumers are heading out.
The price range for onions in Austria has remained unchanged this week at €14 to €17 per 100 kilos. There is no shortage of supply, but on the other hand, the demand for onions is currently increasing. This causes the price to stabilize. The current demand for onions is mainly met with winter onions. In addition to winter onions, Austria now also has access to planting and sowing onions. The prices mentioned are grower prices, delivered loose in crates from the grower's company.
Poland
In Poland, the onion market is having difficulty maintaining price levels. The supply of onions is growing, while demand (due to the holidays) is moderate. The price range last week was between €15 and €17 per 100 kilos, this week that range has dropped to €11 to €15 per 100 kilos, based on delivery in 15 kilo bags.
Germany
In Germany, the sales of home-grown onions, onions from New Zealand, are a major concern. The volume of homegrown onions would now be sufficient for the current demand. However, the total supply puts pressure on prices. This week there has been an average decrease of €2, to a price range of €22 to €24 per 100 kilos. The current weather in Germany means that harvesting cannot take place in all places, sometimes due to conditions that are too warm and sometimes due to conditions that are too wet.
