The 2016 onion season started in week 27, with a total of 34 tons of onions exported through week 134.836.140. This year the season only started in week 29 and 129.782.566 tons of onions have already been sent across the border.
No relapse expected
Export figures are rising steadily this season. Only in week 32 was there an outlier upwards. As before proclaim, this had to do with the increasing demand due to the Tabaski sacrificial feast. Week 34 is good for an export of 23.504.773 tons. This is comparable to last year's figure.
For the time being, there is no reason to assume that the export figures will decline.
Senegal remains the largest buyer
In week 34, Senegal is again the largest buyer of Dutch onions. The country bought 6.203.000 tons of onions, which is good for 26% of the export volume in week 34. Ivory Coast and Guinea finish the top 3.281.750 with 2.026.800 tons and 3 tons.
