Empty Dakar containers put exports to a standstill

Now that the quota in Senegal has been extended by a month and the volumes from September do not count, Dutch exporters are supplying full throttle. However, another unforeseen problem has now arisen.

With an estimate of 6 boats in 2 weeks, onion exports to Senegal are going well. The large volume is motivated by a celebration, but there is also some fear of oversupplying the market.

Container depots are full of empty containers

And there is another problem. Congestion has developed in the port of Dakar. The container depots are full of empty containers. A lot of product comes into the country, but little goes out.

Consequences for potatoes, onions and carrots
This concerns depots of shipping companies that find the transport of empty containers too expensive or do not have a boat nearby. As a result, everything that needs to enter the country is stuck.

According to an exporter, there has been a delay of 2 weeks. This has consequences for onions, potatoes and carrots. The stock for the port is only increasing.
