The onion harvest in Europe is almost complete. Does the transition from the 'off the land period' to the 'dry out period' have consequences for price formation?
The onion harvest in Germany is almost over. This means that the supply of onions can be measured better. There is currently not much supply that needs to be sold earlier due to poor quality.
Price levels should pick up
Yellow onions with a medium grade, sorted, delivered in Big Bags from the sorting company are traded on average for €10 per 100 kilos. Insiders expect that the price level may pick up slightly, making the onion market in Germany feel more stable. The price level of yellow onions has not changed since week 38. The red onions based on the same conditions are traded between €22 and €23 per 100 kilos.

Stabilization in Austria
The situation is also stable in Austria. The supply is sufficient for the current demand in our own country. Demand seems to be weakening somewhat in the export market. Austria mainly serves countries in Eastern and Southeastern Europe.
This means that onion prices stabilize in a price range between €12 and €16 per 100 kilos. The basis for this price is: sorted and delivered loose in crates, ex works from the grower.Grower prices in Austria over the years.
