Export train on onions continues to thunder

The sale of onions has really taken off this season. Booking records seems to be almost becoming commonplace. What are this season's records?

The provisional export figure for week 43 stands at 28.243 tons. This export figure is almost a quarter filled by Senegal, this week the country accounted for the purchase of 6.515 tons. This brings the sales count of onions to Senegal to 98.475 tons.

More than 35.500 tonnes of the set quota have now been delivered, or 55%. It can be concluded that all taps are wide open to get the onions delivered to Senegal.

Where else do the onions go?
Ivory Coast was the second largest buyer in week 43; with a volume of 3.798 tons. In total, this African country has purchased more than 49.000 tons of onions this season, which is 7.517 tons more than last year.

Malaysia took third place with a purchase of 3.183 tons of onions, bringing a total of 18.430 tons (last season 21.650 tons), which means a deficit of 3.220 tons (about 15%).

The total seasonal export figure stands at 387.967 tons compared to 377.585 tons last season. On average, this corresponds to 25.864 tons per week. For calendar year 2017, the export counter stands at 855.140 tons (in 2016 this was 816.123 tons).
