Final spurt in onion export provides good figures

The onion export made a final sprint towards the turn of the year. This means that the first half of the sales season has achieved an even better result.

In the last week before Christmas, the export engine was running at full speed. With a provisional export figure of 32.955 tons and 2.231 tons of subsequent information, this season's export counter stands at 652.777 tons. That means a weekly average of 28.381 tons.

These are unparalleled figures. The total volume exported in 2017 amounts to 1.119.951 tons. This means it has more than passed the 1 million ton mark.

Who were the biggest buyers?
The largest buyer in week 51 is Senegal. The country purchased 11.275 tons of onions that week, bringing the total volume this season to 149.108 tons. Although Ivory Coast is far behind with 2.835 tonnes, it takes second place with this volume. The country is now good for 83.927 tons this season.

Mauritania purchased 51 tonnes in week 2.817 and takes third place. Guinea purchased 2.646 tons of onions and is in fourth place. The top 5 is completed by Malaysia, which purchased 2.321 tonnes. This puts 4 African countries in the top 5.

The last runners-up in week 51 were the Maldives with 2 kilos and Japan and Egypt with both 5 kilos.The export figures of onions up to and including week 51 over the years.
