The trade is a lot more active this week in search of large onions. This is also confirmed by the favorable mood of the Emmeloord stock exchange. How does this affect the price of large onions?
The mood in the onion market was a lot livelier this week last week. Interest in coarse parties in particular has increased. The Emmeloord stock exchange recorded a positive mood this week. This indicates that supply is smaller or equal to demand. Last week, Emmeloord recorded a calm mood, which means that supply is greater than or equal to demand.
It is still a difficult market for parties with a fine size selection, but there are still plenty of destinations for the large onions. Brazil has also purchased a number of containers in recent weeks. This demand has not yet continued and the first onions have yet to arrive in Brazil, but it offers hope for growers with beautiful, large onions.
Another dime was paid for a number of parties this week. This concerns the top end of the market, where the onions are very large and of good color.
Regional fairs
The Emmeloord stock exchange recorded a plus of €0,50 for the large onions this week. In Goes, the top end of large onions also increased by €0,50, but the price at the bottom end of large onions fell by €0,50. As a result, the quotation for large onions remained balanced. When all 3 regional fairs are compared, the price for fine onions is €5 to €6,50 and for coarse onions €5,50 to €9,50.

The price shows an increase again in week 6.
How many good games are left?
The program CBS announced the final harvest estimate this week. The seed onion area amounted to 26.123 hectares, which is 567 hectares less than the previous estimate in October. This means that the gross revenue estimate has been reduced by 4% and now stands at 1.453 million tonnes.
So there are fewer onions than previously thought. Add to this the fact that many parties were dropped due to quality problems. The question is how many healthy batches of beautiful and large onions are left. It could be that the difference between coarse and fine onions will make a significant difference in the coming weeks.
