The export of onions from New Zealand is slowly taking shape. What are the figures for week 7 like, and are they comparable to previous seasons?
In week 7, 3.361 tons of New Zealand onions were exported, raising the seasonal volume to 8.525 tons. Compared to last season, this is a deficit of approximately 2.700 tons.
Almost all destinations are behind schedule. Singapore is a positive exception. The country had not purchased any onions from New Zealand until week 7 last year, but is now at a volume of 52 tons. At 1.480 tons (2018) compared to 1.481 tons (2017), the decrease by Indonesia is comparable.
Not this low since 2014
Destinations on the European mainland have a total of 7 tonnes up to and including week 3.684, compared to 5.720 tonnes in 2017. This quantity has not been this low since 2014. To date, most onions have been exported to the Dutch ports (1.758 tons).
The Netherlands is followed by Germany (714 tons), which is followed by France (628 tons). The United Kingdom has not yet purchased New Zealand onions, which is similar to last year's situation.
