The export figure of week 9 (with the preliminary information) enters the top 3 of the leanest export weeks of this season. The figures for the previous weeks have also been adjusted, but not as expected. What does that mean for the total export result?
With a weekly export figure of 12.907 tons, week 9 takes the second to last place of this season. Only the first export week of this season (week 1) showed an even smaller figure (29 tons). The provisional figure will still be adjusted by additional information and that should show whether the second place is relinquished to week 12.684, which had an export result of 52 tons.
Numbers too rosy
The revisions of the previous weeks came to a minus of 755 tons this week, implying that the figures up to and including week 8 have been too rosy. A remarkable phenomenon that does not happen often. The export figure of week 5 has been adjusted downwards by more than 1.000 tons. On the other hand, there are positive adjustments of almost 47 tons in week 7 and 200 tons in week 8.
The export result of week 9 was shaped by Mauritania, among others. The country bought 1.596 tons and is therefore good for 47.889 tons this season. Malaysia bought 1.422 tons of onions and raised the seasonal result to 53.720 tons. Brazil completed the top 1.240 with 3 tons and comes to a total of 12.305 tons. Last year it was 4.336 tons.
This calendar year, 176.977 tons of onions have been exported, compared to 174.147 tons in 2017 and 196.774 tons in 2016.The export figures of onions over the years (up to and including week 9).
