The export figures of onions, which are published weekly, are an indicator for the Dutch onion market. How do the numbers turn out for the first broken export week of 2018?
The latest export figure for onions is the lowest figure this season has seen. However, these are provisional figures and a correction may be made in the coming weeks. In any case, the figures deserve a small note, and that is that these are the figures for the period around Easter (whereby 1 working day was lost).
Nevertheless, the provisional export figure for onions from week 14 stands at 9.993 tons. Subsequent information from previous weeks shows that the total export figure has increased by 2.627 tons, bringing the total for this season to 930.933 tons. It means that 24.498 tons were exported per week.
Where did the onions go?
Only 3 countries signed for more than 14 tons in week 1.000. The first place was Great Britain (1.286 tons), which means that the country is responsible for purchasing 77.937 tons of onions this season. In second place is Mauritania (1.067 tonnes) and that country currently has a total purchase of 54.871 tonnes.
Guinea is in third place (1.015 tons). The country already purchased 51.410 tons of Dutch onions this season. A total of 68 countries were supplied in week 14.
