There is a lot of offer on the onion market

The onion market was very lackluster last week. This means that supply is greater than demand. However, the processors are currently inactive looking for onions, while they do receive offers from growers. When there are good deals, the processors still take the bait. Many processors with stocks choose to use up these stocks first and do not commit anything in the long term. It is therefore mainly day trading that is taking place at the moment.

Ask for coarse onions
De quality has been very decisive this season. This varies enormously and, especially in recent weeks, a large proportion of the onions have worn out, which only increases the quality spread. There will still be demand for good, large onions this season; provided the quality remains satisfactory.

Some more onions are needed Brazil exported, but no longer with the volume of the previous 3 weeks. Furthermore, the demand for large onions mainly comes from Europe.

Quotes take a step back
The regional stock exchanges Emmeloord and Middenmeer are experiencing a weak market. All regional stock exchanges are taking a step back in the quotations. The 30% to 60% large onions and the 60% large onions both show a negative difference compared to 1 week ago. When all 3 regional exchanges are compared, a minus of €30 to €60 is recorded for the 4% to 7,50% large onions and the quotations for the 60% large onions are a minus of € 6 to €10,50.

The spread in bale prices is still large due to the difference in destinations. Onions with sizes 45 to 65 millimeters and 50 to 70 millimeters are sold at low bale prices. The coarser grades are also under slight pressure. You will find all bale prices here.
