Brazilian demand for onions is reflected in export figures

The latest export figure for Dutch onions is a reflection of the Dutch efforts this season. And they can feel at odds with pricing. It is striking this week that the Brazilian demand for onions is reflected in the figures.

The provisional export figure for week 17 is 15.915 tons. In addition, subsequent information ensures an increase in the total result. This concerns 1.796 tonnes and that figure relates to a correction of weeks 14, 15 and 16.

The counter for the 2017/2018 season currently stands at 993.144 tons, which means an average of 24.223 tons per week. In calendar year 2018 324.338 tons of onions have now been exported, compared to 300.210 tons in 2017.

Brazil remains the largest customer
Just like it was last week Brazil the largest buyer of Dutch onions. In week 17, the country accounted for a provisional purchase of 3.785 tons, bringing the total for this season to 24.417 tons. This volume is above the multi-year average when the 2015/2016 and 2014/2013 seasons are ignored.

Great Britain is the second largest buyer with 2.630 tons of Dutch onions and has already purchased 87.394 tons this season. This volume is below the level of last season (115.923 tons), but above the previous season (82.060 tons).

Germany purchased more than 17 tons of onions in week 981, increasing the season's total to 16.634 tons (last year it was 17.964 tons). Mauritania and Spain are in 807th and 621th place on the list of largest buyers with 4 tonnes and 5 tonnes respectively.The export figures of onions up to and including week 17 (over the years).
