The carrot market has calmed down somewhat, after last week's extremely steady mood. Meanwhile, the carrot is becoming scarce, but the demand is increasing. What does it lead to?
Prices are quoted from €175 to €300 per box of B-carrot. At the Agricultural Fair North and Central Netherlands (LNCN) last Thursday (24 May) prices were quoted at €30 to €46 per 100 kilos. It is unchanged compared to last week, but an extremely steady mood in the carrot was still reported.
Is it now finished with the rising price? Traders report that trading is going well. The demand for large carrots is increasing, because there is little carrot available in Southern European countries. The cutting plants need volumes, which are not available from the new harvest for the time being.
Little new harvest
The delivery of the new harvest is only starting slowly and there is little carrot available. The fresh harvest from Spain is usually already available, but there is also considerably less available there due to a wet start to the season and smaller areas. The shortage could support the carrot price in the coming weeks, provided there is good quality remains available.
