First onion tender ever full within 24 hours

Last week (week 22) Uienhandel.com was the first (online) onion broker with the option to sell onions through a tender. It turned out to be a great success, because the tender was full within 24 hours.

Onionhandel.com wrote May 30 (among the growers affiliated with them) issued a tender that gave the opportunity to sell onions for the 2018 harvest. The request was made for a volume with delivery from January 2019. A storage fee of €0,10 per 100 kilos is given for each week later. The tender concerns a good class II onion, from storage throughout the Netherlands. In addition, there is a €0,50 discount for parties located in the northern 3 provinces.

Surprisingly went well
Machiel Boons of Uienhandel.com indicates that this way of marketing onions went very well. "Onion growers have reacted very enthusiastically to this way of selling." The order to place a tender came from an onion sorter from the south west of the country.

The client was also positively surprised at the speed with which the total transaction was completed. The onion sorter reported that this method of purchasing came in handy, allowing people to switch quickly based on demand, volume and price.

It was especially striking that there was so much enthusiasm among growers to sell onions at this stage of the season. The tender had to be closed within 48 hours. A number of growers who also wanted to participate, unfortunately had to be disappointed. This is because the tender was already full.

No announcements on the price and volume of the tender have been made. The growers who are affiliated with Uienhandel.com have received an email with the details of the tender. They are therefore aware of the price realized for the onions with delivery from January 2019.
