Beurs Emmeloord has not been able to put quotations on the board for the red onions in the past 2 weeks. Time for a look back, when was the best time to sell red onions?
The mood at the onion market is dull. This means that supply is greater than demand. It is becoming increasingly difficult for growers to deliver the required quality, which means that many onions are produced rejected. The end of the season for conventional sowing onions is gradually coming into view.
Eastern Europe
The onions intended for the processing market in Eastern Europe are being sold in large numbers. The processors from Poland have indicated that they still need Dutch onions until July. The onions that are suitable for this market are mainly loaded in Flevoland and the north of the Netherlands.
There are also plenty of onions in the south-west of the Netherlands that would be suitable for the processing market, but for logistical reasons, Polish processors prefer onions from the north of the country.
