The industrial market in Eastern Europe is currently the largest buyer of Dutch onions. Due to wear and tear in the month of May, many parties are condemned to this market. How is the market for conventional onions doing?
The situation in the onion market is comparable to that of the previous weeks. The mood is dull, because the necessary supply is still above the market and the processors are taking a step back.
Poland
Into the industrial market Poland is currently the largest buyer of Dutch onions; more than 100 cars are currently going to Poland per week. The range for this market is large. As a result, prices for the processing market have fallen somewhat.
The processors in Poland have indicated that they need Dutch onions until August. Most parties will therefore have one destination find. However, the prices for the processing market in Poland are not prices that a farmer can grow onions for.
Caribbean
Exports of conventional onions are declining, but are still continuing. Most demand is in Europe (Great Britain) and part of Africa. Onions were even reportedly exported to the Caribbean this week.
The story about the extraordinary export figures is known. The recent export figures (week 21) amount to 1.071.187 tons. This is more than 102 tons more than in the same period last year.

Wear
Dutch packers are becoming increasingly strict when assessing quality. There too, a number of parties have been rejected in recent weeks. Caution is therefore advised with the hard-wearing onions at the moment.
Both the Emmeloord and Middenmeer fairs indicate a dull mood. The quotations for the 60% large onions have fallen by €0,25 on both exchanges. For the 30% to 60% rough quotation, prices remain stable in Middenmeer and the quotation drops by €0,75 in Emmeloord.

onion sets
The onion onion season is approaching. The position of the onion sets varies; Many plots are in good condition, but there are also a number of plots that have been damaged by the weather. There is little trade left in the free market.
