The export season for onions is almost over (in terms of numbers) and the result is impressive. Week 27 will be the first week of the 2018/2019 season.
Based on preliminary figures, it is export figure from week 26 out at 11.200 tons. In addition, a further 6.443 tons of late information has been processed in the figures (week 21 to week 25). This means that an average of 1.288 tons per week of subsequent information has been added.
The export figure for this season amounts to 1.148.022 tons, which corresponds to 22.960 tons per week. If the final figures for the 2017/2018 season are soon to be known, then (in terms of tons exported) a significant achievement has probably been achieved.
Who were the biggest buyers?
The export cart was pulled by Great Britain in week 26, with a purchase of 2.531 tons of onions. The country was followed by Guinea with 1.917 tons, France with 930 tons, Sierra Leone with 676 tons and Ivory Coast with 587 tons of Dutch onions.
So far, 3 destinations have purchased more than 100.000 tons this season: Senegal bought 166.753 tons of onions, compared to 168.925 tons last season. Great Britain bought 114.343 tons, compared to 135.980 tons of onions last season. Third place is for Ivory Coast. That country bought 106.477 tons this season, compared to 86.094 tons last season.
It is mainly the African countries that made a significant contribution to the realized export result of the Netherlands in the 2017/2018 season.
