Processing is quiet on the onion market

There are quite a few onion sets left (both in stock and in the field). The onions sold so far generally show a healthy ratio between the different sizes. The late spring onion sets, which are still in the field, will generally be a lot finer.

However, before the processing company starts purchasing new seed onions, they will first want to clear the stocks of onion onions as much as possible. This week €18 to €24 was quoted for onion onions at the stock exchange in Goes.

Export must get going
From the export figures it appears that this has yet to get underway. Onions are already exported to Africa, especially to Ivory Coast, Mauritania and Guinea. Even though the border to Senegal is still closed and there are no concrete indications about the opening of the border, a boat is reportedly on its way to Dakar. If the market opens to Senegal, this will be a major boost for Dutch onion exports.

Due to the high market prices, processors and exporters do not want to take too many risks. Therefore, few consignments of onions are being purchased at the moment, and current developments in exports come first scanned.

Expand the listing ex-land
In week 32, the Emmeloord exchange (on land) makes a distinction between onions for direct delivery (delivery within 3 weeks) and fully grown onions. The quotation for 30% to 60% large field-grown onions is at a level of €17 to €20, both for direct delivery and for grown onions. There was also a quotation for sowing onions in Goes this week (direct delivery) and the quotation amounts to €19 to €21.

The onions that have a coarseness percentage of above 60% fetch €18 to €21 at the Emmeloord fair (direct delivery). The quotation for fully grown onions is slightly higher, because these onions still have a chance to become coarser. €21 to €23 is quoted for this.The quotations compared to previous harvest years.
