The export figures for onions from week 32 were related almost exclusively to African buyers. The export engine is currently running at full throttle, leaving all previous seasons behind. How about that?
Not every export season starts in the same week. Comparing the various years is difficult; who does, compares apples and oranges and looks at the figures from a factory perspective. The start of the 2018 harvest year is in week 27, just as was the case in 2014 and 2016. However, on average, most harvest years start in week 28, with the exception of 2013 (week 30) and 2017 (week 29).
Great post fulfilled information
The provisional export figures up to and including week 32 have now been announced, which means that there are 6 weeks of figures for this season. This brings the result for week 32 to 21.445 tons. Since the figures are published faster than before (this is now after 3 weeks, where previously it was 5 weeks), there is a large post of updated information every week. This is because not every exporter submits its figures on time.
The subsequent information concerns a volume of 29 tons for weeks 30, 31 and 1.223. No adjustment was recorded this week for weeks 27 and 28. The new figures from week 32 in combination with the adjustment yield a volume of 2018 tons for the 98.998 harvest year. This is compared to previous harvest years a record, as shown in the graph below.
The export volume for 2017 amounted to 86.960 tons and the volume for 2016 amounted to 84.995 tons. If we look at the results based on calendar years, the volume in 2018 reached a level of 578.214 tons. That was 2017 tons in 554.133 and 2016 tons in 523.493. It is also more than in 2015, when the level was 524.192 tonnes. So even if we look at the calendar years, the 2018 harvest year holds its own.
Who takes the onions?
The export result of week 32 is mainly caused by African buyers. Senegal predominates with 7.330 tons, and it is not yet known when the border will be opened. 10.870 tons of onions are now on their way to Senegal.
Ivory Coast purchased 32 tons of onions in week 4.657, based on provisional figures. This means that the country is good for 20.168 tons of Dutch onions this season. Third place goes to Mauritania, because that country purchased 32 tons of onions in week 1.326. The country has already purchased a total of more than 4.000 tons of onions. The export figures of onions up to and including week 32 (over the years).
