The drought has not only affected the Netherlands, because throughout Europe there are low yields due to the warm weather. Only in Spain are the yields reasonable to good. In the rest of Europe it is moderate to bad.

Fewer onions in EU-28
The yield of onions in the Netherlands is estimated to be 40% to 50% lower than last year. Other countries in Northern Europe estimate the yields to be slightly less negative. In Germany, Great Britain and Denmark, a decline of 25% is expected.

If yield expectations are correct, this would mean that there are more than 28 million tons fewer onions available in the EU-1 (compared to last year). Last year, more than 28 million tons of onions were produced in the EU-6.
